Ziggy came to Wildwood Farm Sanctuary in January of 2016 along with eight other sheep and goats. Ziggy and his companions had been seized by law enforcement from some of the worst conditions the rescuers had ever seen. In all, over 40 animals were removed, filthy and starving, and some suffering long-term physical or emotional issues because of their horrible experience. In an initial health screening, we learned Ziggy had had CLA, or Caseous Lymphadenitis, which is an incurable disease that causes painful abscesses in the lymph nodes. There are no treatments or cures. Our mission was to make Ziggy as happy as we could for as long as we could.
And boy was this guy happy! Ziggy was the first of the nine rescues to come out of his shell and he was ALL personality and ears! He quickly decided he loved people, a good brushing, a scratch behind the ears, and lots and lots of blackberry leaves. He got the nickname “The Break-Out King” after he figured out he could use his size and newfound weight to knock volunteers over and get into all the hay stacks! We all thought of him as Wildwood’s big, goofy puppy dog. He would bound over to any human friends for a good snuggle and a snack, and he amused us with his creative style, like his unusual way of drinking out of the trough.
On June 20, 2017, Ziggy lost his life to this illness, but not before having the best time he had ever known with food, sun, his friends from the rescue and lots and lots of love. Giving Ziggy this chance to be happy and learn to love was only possible because sanctuaries like Wildwood Farm Sanctuary exist.
The Ziggy Memorial Veterinary Fund is set up to support expenses for special needs residents like Ziggy. With your donation, you can help support these special needs animals who previously knew only fear and neglect. Once they arrive here, they know only love and kindness for whatever time they have left.
To donate to the Ziggy Memorial Fund, head over to the Donate page, find the form in the “One Time Donation, Monthly Donation, and Special Fund Donations” section, check the box next to “I would like to designate this donation to a specific fund,” and select the Ziggy Memorial Veterinary Fund from the drop down menu.
From all of us at Wildwood, THANK YOU for making second chances possible.
