On February 3rd, we welcomed baby Charlotte (a.k.a. Babushka). This baby’s journey to us is difficult to describe, but it’s important to tell.
Three weeks before her arrival, Charlotte’s mother was slaughtered for meat. Moments after her death, the worker in the facility noticed she was pregnant. Saddened and horrified, he immediately delivered the baby via emergency C-section, pulling her two weeks premature from her mother’s lifeless body.
The farmer had no use for the baby and had planned to also slaughter her. The worker couldn’t bear to watch this innocent baby’s life end so quickly. So he took her to his house where she lived inside, right alongside a dog and a pig who were also indoor pets. The family bottle-fed her, promising her he’d find her a safe forever home.
That’s when he found us here at Wildwood. He drove to our sanctuary early last week and was prepared to beg for us to give her a home. But he didn’t have to beg at all. Our founder, Shauna, said yes, and and the sweet baby’s tragic story ended as she joined the Wildwood family, where she’ll forever be safe and loved. By protecting and nurturing this dear girl, we will honor her mother’s memory every day.
Welcome, precious little one. We are so, so sorry for your terrible introduction to the world. But now, we promise, you will always be okay. Charlotte has been a facorite of our volunteers, getting tons of attention and affection. She has passed her initial veterinary checkups and is well on her way to settling into her new home on Wildwood.
